Parish Church of San Michele

According to the 1162 Papal Bull of Pope Alexander III, the ancient parish church is dedicated to the “Saint Michaels” of Verduno. The "in house" Church of San Michele, as opposed to the parish church of San Martino next to the cemetery, was cited in the following centuries. In 1707, reconstruction began on the site of the Parish of St. Michael lead by 4 known master builders: Antonino Gatto, Antonio Lanero, Carlo Corte and Matteo Mollinaro. San Martino was then reduced in importance to “cemetery chapel”. The facade is devoid of a pediment. The interior, stately and imposing, with a single nave and side chapels, is influenced by seventeenth century Baroque art. The painting of the Immaculate Conception in the first altar on the right, as well as the figure of St. Michael in the choir, is attributed to Sebastiano Taricco Cherasco; the image of the Blessed Sebastiano Valfrè is the work of Augustine Cottolengo di Bra.
